LAYTON BROTHERS MYSTERY ROOM App Reviews

Great game

I loved this game. It was addicting, fun, and had pretty good twists, though some things were clique. Would have loved it to be longer though, I finished this in exactly 8 hours, didnt seem worth 5 bucks for not even half a day of play. :(

No background music

The game does not have background music on iOS 9. Doesnt look like Level 5 has any intention of fixing it.

Sound Issue

This isnt really a review as much as this is a complaint. My game cannot play the music anymore. I tried reinstalling it but it didnt work. Please do another update.

Very different from the DS games

Im a huge fan of the Layton games on the DS, but this sadly does not even compare. Theres a lot of dialogue, its cumbersome trying to move between things (just how many buttons do I have to push to take a quick look at a crime scene during a questioning?), and the puzzles arent even remotely the same as the DS series. Ive heard the next Layton will be an app as well, which is incredibly disappointing. Theres so much more depth to those DS games, I wish theyd go back to that format. This just feels like a cheapened version of the Layton series weve known and loved. Ps: the sides of the screen are cut off on my iPad Air.

Love this game to bits

I first played this game the day after it came out and I fell in love immediately. I have all the main Layton games in my collection and Im a big fan of Ace Attorney, so this game was a great way to bring the two together before PL vs PW came out. Just yesterday I had bought a new iPad Air, updated it to the latest version and downloaded the game onto it. I was really happy to get play this game again, but there was a problem: the game was scaled up so that the sides were cut off... Not only that, there was NO MUSIC! It just doesnt feel the same without music Im hoping this problem can be resolved. Until then, Im putting 4 stars.

Love it!!!

I absolutely love this game, I love the characters and the the overall plot of the game. Ive always been a professor Layton fan, having played all the games and watching the movie. So while this wasnt exactly the same as the games for those of you who have played professor Layton you can see the influence of the games on the app. This game is so addicting as well, I finished the game in a day and was craving for more! I hope the creators make a sequel for the app because there are a lot of loose ends by the time you get to the end of it. Overall I recommend this app for everybody whether your a Layton fan or not, its just a fun game to play:)

Finished the free levels

Its ok. There is a ton of reading involved. A lot of unnecessary, boring dialogue makes each mystery last way too long. The time involved in actually using my brain to play the game amounted to about 20 min over 2 mysteries. Im not paying for more mysteries. But it was ok to pass the hour or so of mostly reading the dialogue.

Couldnt stand the bad grammar

Immediate uninstall/delete. Nothing like the original Professor Layton games. Grammar is actually unbearable.

Short and very easy.

The game is okay, but it tends to hold your hand. Most of the chapters can be completed within 5-10 minutes and none of them are particularly memorable. Save your money and play Phoenix Wright instead.

PART 2

PLEAS MAKE A SEQUEL!!!!! The game needs more cases to solve and more mysterys to investigate!!! Please make part 2...... VERY SOON!!!!

Not What You Think

Note: I have never played a Ace Attorney game so if the I pad version version of that is getting better reviews than this game then I guess you should just buy that but I dont know since of course Ive never played one okay now to the review. This is not! I repeat Not! What you want, if your looking for a professor layton game. This game is very different since it has. A all different cast. All different gameplay style. a all different feel and a lot MORE! This game is a detective game you look around trying to solve mystery witch are very fun. I found a few parts where I was very lost though maybe since the difficulty can go from feeling like your doing a baby math sheet to doing rocket since. Seriously the 1st one was fun and challenging but the second won was like trying to figure out how to breath. The nice hand drawn characters look nice and the crime scenes take some getting use to. But once your cool with the crime scenes the visuals look fine. The last big problem I have with this game is just sometimes its a little hard to follow. So If you just want a (STAND ALONE) detective game you might want to give this one a try. P.S. With all Professor Laytons female companions dying all the time who did layton Mary so Alfred Layton could exist?

AMAZING!!

I love this game! Wish there were more chapters tho!!

Needs a sequel

This game is a quiet gem that really deserves more recognition. Its not the same puzzle solving gameplay that youd expect from a traditional Professor Layton game but I think it does its own thing very well. It feels a bit like Ace Attorney but a little more directed and accelerated. However, dont think that makes it easy; some of the later cases get quite tricky! Speaking of the cases, the writing itself is bloody brilliant. While the cases start out relatively straightforward, each successive mystery provides an interesting gameplay twist on the investigation formula to keep it fresh, with a well-written story hook as justification. I also found the dialogue extremely charming, especially Lucys Yorkshire accent, among others. Id also be remiss not to mention the fantastic jazzy soundtrack, which is uniformly catchy and evocative. Heres hoping they eventually make good on their sequel hooks. And remember: every puzzle has an answer!

Needs to be updated

Its a great game, and I want to buy the extra cases, but it needs to be updated so that it is compatible with the iPad mini and other new devices. The way it is now, I cant see the full screen and that irritates me. I dont want to buy anything where I cant use it to its full potential.

Layton brothers

Love this game but to short please make more levels

Wish they made a second one...

The game was really good, but I have no idea why they didnt make a second one. The game didnt necessarily end on a cliff hanger, but it DEFINITELY ended making you wonder what happens next. I mean, Id totally pay another five bucks for a sequel. Maybe one day...

Begging For More!

This game is brilliant! Spoilers for readers, by the way. Ive always enjoyed mystery games that have a good story, and this one was crafted wonderfully. Each mystery had me guessing on who to pin it on; I actually felt like I was Lucy working alongside my mentor, the Prof. Meanwhile, the overarching story with Placid and Potty Prof, along with the hints to his ties to a previous case, always made me want to come back for more to see what would happen! The characters are extremely charming; their often overzealous natures and diverse personalities while interacting constantly either made me smile or helped me to become more immersed in the story. I actually felt kind of bad for pinning it on Justin at the end at first; like Lucy said, it was hard to doubt your apparent peers. The end credits were cute as well, showing many of the characters both before and after the games main events. The artwork strewn throughout the story was great too, beautifully colored and integrated well, still showing everything in both serious and funny tones. Like I said, the characterization in this tale is wonderful and charming. Im a completely sucker for stories and fun characters, Ill admit it, and this hit perfectly home. The only disappointing, yet still exciting part is the ending. It feels like a complete cliffhanger, as Lucy and Al are off on another mystery adventure, then suddenly name dropping Hershel Layton on the phone call. It left me wanting more - desperately, just for the story alone! (To be honest, I also wish Hildas relationship with Al was touched upon a bit more. Her speech was moving, seemingly alluding to them possibly being together before, and now I kind of ship them. Ha-ha) Now for the gameplay. The game honestly didnt impress me too well at first, but that was only the first two cases. The open way of investigating was immersive, and eventually came to really fit the tone and setup thats given. The scenes get progressively more expansive, but the last part was a tad overwhelming. Despite this, solving it totally paid off. I enjoyed the part where you must find Diane in the third-to-last case file, it was a nice one-time departure from the murder mysteries, but was only once and lender to the setting. Saying this, I am a previous fan of the Professor Layton puzzle games, but the murder mystery route was a perfect choice for the rest - it certainly felt more focused in both story and gameplay. The way I had to play the original series felt scattered and not very cohesive in both gameplay and story, making it less compelling than it would seem for me. This, on the other hand, was exciting and hooked me in. Theres no punishments for first-timers who are having a hard time, making it accessible and appealing to a wider audience, but doesnt take a way from the thrills of being correct on both your first and third guesses. The story helps with a bit of an excuse for the Prof to help newbies, but slowly weans you off his help, even if Lucy dislikes it. (Again, the characters!❤️) Each bit of information helps to build anticipation towards the answers, and it feels like youre really trying to work through a case, going through different conjectures to find the truth of each matter at hand. The dialogue in questionings is exciting, leading you along and keeping you involved, but I still sometimes knew the answer to something before having the chance to say it and just wanted to spit it out. It didnt really take away from the game all that much though, and I could rant on about why I love it for days. But I sort of have to stop now sadly. I hope to see a sequel. I really, really, really do.

Great game, Hope to see more like it

I love this game, the storyline is fantastic and easy to follow. The characters each have such interesting backstorys and the crimes are well put together and fun to solve.

Please make a DS Sequel!!!

I rarely review things, but this deserves one! Its a great change for the professor Layton Series, at first I wasnt sure what to expect. When you think of Professor Layton you think of puzzle solving not solving murder cases. But after playing it, its perfect! Interesting characters, interesting cases, and a unique twist that still gives you the Professor Layton Feel. I really want Level 5 to make a full game for the Mystery Room, heck Id like a whole series. It would be so much fun to play on this on the DS. So overall an a amazing game, I love to see more of Lucy and Prof Layton. Maybe one day this can be made into a series.

Make a sequel

This app is amazing. You get to be a real detective and solve crimes, but what makes this game 1000x better is the characters. This is the first game I have come across that has a balance of fun and mystery along with 3-Dimensional characters. I know its been three years but everyone wants a sequel. They want a part two! I want to see what happens to Hilda or Sniffer. I would definitely recommend this game to anyone of all ages!
